Tin Can API has massive potential to transform how learner data are stored, analysed and managed. It’s the successor to SCORM and offers new opportunities for learning activities to be recorded from an almost limitless variety of platforms, not just Learning Management Systems. This article argues that most real learning takes place outside the LMS, so that is where we should be gathering learner activity data. It kind of knocks the whole LMS learning model into touch, so anybody in eLearning should at least be aware of it to avoid being future-blind.
